Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan picked up a pair of dramatic victories over Alderson-Broaddus on Thursday evening at Culpepper Field. Wesleyan walked off an 8-7 winner in game one, and claimed a 3-2 win in game two on a sixth inning home run.
In game one, Jacqui Omichinski opened the scoring with a RBI double to put Wesleyan in front 1-0. A-B tied the game with a RBI single in the second, and took a 3-1 lead with a two-run blast in the third. A Battler error brought Wesleyan within one at 3-2 in the bottom of the inning. Two Wesleyan errors led to a trio of Battlers crossing the plate in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-2. Paige Cummings pushed across a run, and Kaitlyn Carey laced a two-run double down the left field line to pull Wesleyan closer at 6-5. The Battler's Vanessa Bodily tucked a ball just inside the left field foul pole to make the score 7-5 in the seventh. Cummings knotted the game with a two-run bomb to center, and Carleigh Hall delivered the game-winning run with a single in the eighth.
Omichinski received a no-decision after tossing six innings, surrendering six runs (two earned) on nine hits while striking out five. Carey earned the win, hurling two innings, giving up one run on a hit with three strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Alderson-Broaddus strung together four base hits to score a pair of runs in the first. Omichinski trimmed the lead to 2-1 with a RBI double in the bottom of the inning. Megan Malenstyn stepped to the plate in the sixth and delivered a two-run blast with two outs to put WVWC in front 3-2, and the Bobcats held on to win by that margin.
Carey scattered 11 hits while yielding a pair of runs and striking out four to pick up the complete game victory.
Wesleyan closes out the regular season on Sunday as they welcome league-leader Fairmont State at 1 p.m.
