Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The Wesleyan softball team split a doubleheader with Concord on Wednesday evening at a windy Culpepper Field. The Bobcats dropped a 4-2 decision in a nine inning first game, but were able to walk-off a 3-2 winner after eight innings in the nightcap.
In game one, Jacqui Omichinski blasted a homer over the left center wall to give Wesleyan a 1-0 lead after two innings. Concord's Jessica Seymour took advantage of the windy conditions, floating a solo homer over the center field fence to tie the game at 1-1. The Mountain Lions' Brantlea Wood drove home a run in the eighth with a double to make the score 2-1. Ashley Hurrey tied the game with a RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning. CU's Becca Gleason and Hayley Wade each drove in runs in the ninth with singles. Wesleyan loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, but a double play ended the game, allowing Concord to escape with the 4-2 win.
Kaitlyn Carey tossed the complete game, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits with four strikeouts.
In game two, Gleason put CU ahead in the third inning with a RBI double. Rebekah Honce tied the game with a RBI double in the fourth. The Mountain Lionas went back on top 2-1 in the eighth after a Wesleyan error. Honce fouled off five pitches before drilling a blast over the center field fence to take the 3-2 victory for the Bobcats.
Omichinski went the distance, yielding two runs (one earned) on five hits, while striking out seven and walking one.
WVWC travels to Ohio Valley on Friday.
