Box Score 3 VIENNA, W.Va. – The Wesleyan softball team was victorious in a pair of elimination games against Charleston (4-2) and Glenville State (3-0), but couldn't get past regular season champion Fairmont State (4-0).
Against Charleston, Jacqui Omichinski opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning. Bre Taylor plated a run with a bunt single in the second, and a Golden Eagle error extended the lead to 4-0 in the third. UC scored two with a home run in the fourth, but Wesleyan was able to hold on for the 4-2 victory.
Omichinski earned the win, tossing four innings allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out three. Kaitlyn Carey picked up the save, working three scoreless innings with six strikeouts.
Against the Pioneers, Paige Cummings tripled home a run in the fourth, and scored on a two-run blast to secure the 3-0 win.
Carey tossed the shutout, yielding six hits while striking out six and walking one.
Fairmont State scored single runs in the second, third, fifth and sixth to take the 4-0 win.
Jessica Griffin was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits with a strikeout.
The Bobcats finished the 2013 campaign 32-21. Friday's loss brings an end to the brilliant careers of Carey and Cummings.
