Box Score Phillipi, W.Va. -- Wesleyan's Women's Soccer earned their first win of the season beating local rivals Alderson Broaddus 2-0.

AB began to increase pressure on Wesleyan's defense, with the Battlers seeing a good spell of possession. The Lady Bobcat's held strong and countered in the 34th minute, with a great link up play between Abbey Lindblad and Tianna Bennardo, resulting in Colette Biondi forcing the save from Turner, and the rebound shot from Bennardo being deflected out for a corner.
Senior Jade Smith almost gave Wesleyan the lead just before half when AB failed to clear a corner, and Smith shot from the edge of the box putting it narrowly left of the post.
The Bobcats and the Battlers went into the half both recording six shots a piece.
Wesleyan picked up from where they left off in the first half and continued to bombard the Battlers defense. With 55 minutes played, a well-worked throw-in between Lindblad and Biondi, allowed for Lindblad to cross the ball to Bennardo, who headed wide.
Bennardo was involved again in the 67th minute, when a pass wide from the left found Rachel Ransom whose shot forced Turner to make a diving save to her right.
Wesleyan earned a free-kick five yards into the Battlers half with 20 minutes left to play. Megan McCoy delivered the free-kick deep into the box, where Smith out jumping her opponent headed the ball on, which was met by Freshman Laura Hill who headed over Turner giving the Bobcats the lead 1-0.
Shortly after, the Lady Bobcats get their second goal of the game when Hill, wide on the right, crosses into the box, and a fumble from Turner allows Biondi to pounce and score her first goal of the season.
Wesleyan saw out the rest of the game comfortably with AB only recording one shot the entire second half. The Bobcats totaled 14-7 shots over the Battlers and 4-1 corner kicks.
