Box Score Buckhannon, W.Va. -- Wesleyan's Women's Soccer dominant over West Liberty Hilltoppers winning 2-0 in their first home game of the season.
It took 5 minutes for Wesleyan to create their first chance, when Kristi Dalton played the ball down the left-hand side to Rachel Ritchey, who worked her way into the box forcing a save from the Hilltopper's goalkeeper Rachel Coles.
2 minutes later, Ritchey looked to be in again, when Abbey Lindblad wide on the right crossed into the Hilltoppers six-yard box just out of reach of Ritchey.
After a promising start, The Lady Bobcat's found their first goal in the 9th minute. Dalton played a through ball down the right, where Colette Biondi with a low cross, found Hannah Gurtis who neatly puts the ball bottom left.
Lindblad could have doubled their lead in the 15th minute when a shot from the top of the box went narrowly wide of the left post.
30 minutes played, Ritchey with the ball in the Hilltoppers box, shoots right across goal but the Bobcat's had no one there to finish it off.
Wesleyan started the second half much like the first with a shot from Ritchey from the top of the box, forcing the Hilltoppers substituted keeper Hannah Judkins to parry the shot out in front of her, but Wesleyan failed to have anyone following up for the rebound.
60 Minutes in, Jade Smith found herself with an opportunity to increase their 1-0 lead after a great run but her shot was saved by Judkins.
In the 66th minute, Wesleyan was awarded a penalty for a foul on Tianna Bennardo by Judkins. Ritchey stepped up to take the penalty but failed to convert putting the ball left of the post.
Ritchey made up for her earlier miss in the 70th minute, when she received the ball from a throw in from Heather Sanders, turned her defender shooting from 25 yards out with Judkins unable to do anything but watch it fly over her head.
The Lady Bobcat's possessed the ball the majority of the game, tallying 19 shots to West Liberty's 0. This win means the Bobcat's are now 2-2-1 so far this season.
