Buckhannon, W.Va. -- Men's Soccer earn a 2-1 win in overtime against the Shepherd Rams on Wednesday Evening.
Both teams came out strong, but it was Wesleyan who had the first chance in the 7th minute, when Mike Geiselhart crossed to Jordan Halpern on the edge of the box, who laid it off for Matthew Brown but his volley went wide.
In the 10th minute, a corner kick from Brown was met by Tyler Marshall who was unable to keep it down, heading high.
Ante Susic for Wesleyan looked to have scored in the 18th minute after he turned his marker and fired the ball towards the bottom left corner, but was denied by the Ram's goalkeeper Alex Aleshire.
With 22 minutes played, Halpern dribbled down the right into the Ram's box. His cross was only cleared as far as Joe Ferraracci who under pressure shot straight at Aleshire.
In the 35th minute, Susic again, managed to create himself a yard on the edge of the box, shooting near post only to be saved by Aleshire.
With 40 minutes played, arguably the best chance of the half fell to Susic, when a sly through ball from Halpern left Susic one on one with the Aleshire who denied the Bobcat's the goal.
The Bobcat's could have taken the lead in the 44th minute when Brown's corner found Richard Sho-Silva, but his header was denied yet again by Aleshire.
Wesleyan continued to show their dominance in the second half by controlling the ball and having the majority of the possession. However, the Ram's held strong not allowing Wesleyan to create any clear cut chances.
It took until the 72nd minute for the Bobcat's to find themselves with a chance to take the lead. Rodrigo Bevaqua found Brown down the left hand side, who lobbed Aleshire but the ball was scurried of the line by the Ram's defense.
Despite being in control, Wesleyan was let off in the 75th minute when Shepherd counter-attacked, and a cross from the left found Kevin Doyle with an open goal but he was unable to convert putting the ball high.
Shepherd were gifted a goal with just 6 minutes left to play, when defender Thomas Capstick slips allowing the Ram's Ricky Johnson one on one with goalkeeper Derek Ayers who could do nothing to stop the goal.
Just when the Bobcat's looked down and out, Jens Demul regained possession in his own half and released Halpern on the left. Halpern puts the ball deep into the Ram's box where it is met by Sho-Silva's head for the equalizer and taking the game into overtime.
From here, Wesleyan piled on the pressure and got the breakthrough with 1 minute remaining in the first period of overtime. A direct run into the box from Ferraracci was halted by the Ram's defense, but the ball fell to Susic who took his chance putting the ball bottom right.
Wesleyan outshot the Rams 23-3 and tallied 11 corners to their nil.
The Bobcat's are now 3-3-1 for the season and are home to Urbana Saturday September 28 at 7pm.
