Rams Too Much For 'Cats

Buckhannon, W.Va. -- The Shepherd Rams were able to continue their perfect season Saturday at Cebe Ross field as they defeated Wesleyan 45-10.  The Rams controlled the line of scrimmage and tempo en route to nearly 230 yards  of total rushing.

The Bobcats (1-3,1-2), however, were starting behind the eight ball as junior, and starting QB, Jeremy Musselman, was sidelined due to a concussion in last weeks contest.  This left true freshmen, David Zeh with the starting duty.  However due to an unfortunate injury another true freshman, Tyler Bolen would chime in early, ultimately, receiving most of the action.  Bolen, taking advantage of his situation from the previous week in practice, earned himself the backup role for Saturday's game.  He continued to progresss and make the most of his opportunities come gametime finishing with 12-23 passing for 147 yards, adding the only touchdown on the day for the 'Cats.

The Rams (4-0,3-0) were lead by QB, Trae Tinsman, though not throwing often, however, highly efficient with several long completions leading to two Allen Cross and Jabre Jolly touchdowns.  Tinsman accumulated 220 yards throwing on 11-15 passing with two touchdowns while backup Jeff Ziembs also got some action.

Truth all told Special Teams were pretty quiet on the day, however senior Lavaughn Hughes and freshman Robert Chesson were able to rack up 147 return yards on kickoffs while holding the Rams to a total of 90 total return yards.  Turnovers did play a factor, both teams coughing up the ball twice and one Shepherd interception returned for a touchdown, but it came down to ball control and Shepherd being able to control the line of scrimmage that truly made the difference.

"We'll definitely get better from this," senior Justin Heinauer stated. "We'll continue to build on our hard edge mentality and put this one behind us.  We have six games left and can only focus on what is in our control moving forward."

Wesleyan is back on the gridiron next Saturday when they travel to Glenville State.  Kick off is at 1pm.
