Box Score Buckhannon, W.Va. -- West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Soccer team enjoy back to back wins after overcoming Urbana 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
Despite the narrow score line, the Lady Bobcat's controlled the game but were not clinical in front of goal .
Wesleyan had their first attack in the 6th minute, when a corner kick from Megan McCoy was headed towards goal by Kristi Dalton only to be blocked by the Urbana defense.
Just 15 minutes played, Cris Eddy receiving a through ball from Colette Biondi, was left one on one with the Blue Knight's keeper Taylor Gianangeli, for Eddy's shot to be saved by the feet of Gianangeli.
Eddy looked to be in again 2 minutes later when Abbey Linblad's pass down the right side allowed for her to shoot across the goal, but only to miss the target.
The Bobcat's breakthrough came in the 30th minute, when Tiana Bennardo was brought down in Urbana's box. Jade Smith stepped up sending the Gianangeli the wrong way and giving Wesleyan the 1-0 lead.
Lexi Battocchi had a chance to extend the lead just before half, after Gianangeli was left her off her line from a clearance. Battocchi attempted the lob but Urbana's keeper scrambled back to make the save.
Wesleyan started the second half strong and could of grabbed their second in the 47th minute, when Biondi was one on one with Gianangeli after a well-placed pass from Jessica Hong. Biondi took a touch around the keeper but just overrun the ball out play.
In the 60th minute, Bennardo was gifted Wesleyan's third one on one chance but was denied by the feet of the Blue Knight's keeper.
With 84 minutes on the clock, Dalton played in Rachel Ransom, leaving her with just the keeper to beat, but was unable to convert.
The Lady Bobcat's outshot the Blue Knights 13-3 and tallied 8 corners to their nil.
Now, 4-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the Mountain East Conference, the Lady Bobcat's host Wheeling Jesuit on Wednesday October 2 with kick-off scheduled for 5:00pm.
