Buckhannon, W.Va. – The Men's Soccer team hosted Millersville in their first home game of the season. Double overtime could not separate the two teams with the game finishing with a 1-1 tie.
It was the Bobcat's who had the first chance of the game, just five minutes in, when a cross from Matthew Brown looked to find Joe Ferraracci in the Marauder's box, but he was unable to make contact with the ball allowing for the Maruader's goal keeper, Brad Benzing, to collect the ball.
Millersville put the pressure on early with Jaime Vazquez calling the Wesleyan's goalkeeper, Derek Ayers, into action with a free-kick.
Wesleyan opened the scoring with their first shot, when Alex Zidani wide on the left crosses deep to Jordan Halpern who volleys the ball across the goal and finds the side netting.
The Marauder's still piling on the pressure could not find an answer in penetrating the Bobcat's defense. In the last five minutes of the first half, Ayers was called into action again making a tremendous one handed save from Alex LaFever shot from just six yards out.
At the start of the second half the Bobcat's had a chance to extend their lead when Brown and Zidani linked up, putting Mike Geiselhart through on goal who narrowly puts his shot wide.
53 minutes in, Millersville's Alex LaFever is denied by Ayers who could only push the ball into Jaime Vazquez path, but a goal-line block from Thomas Capstick prevented what was to be a certain goal.
Wesleyan was left with 10 men after Capstick picked up his second yellow card of the game with 60 minutes gone. It took just five minutes after his dismissal for Millersville to find their equalizer through Jeramey Robbins, who found himself on the end of a cross from teammate Ben Johnston.
Despite being a player down, the remainder of the second period was very evenly matched with neither side creating any worthwhile chances.
The first period of over-time saw Millersville have a succession of corners that were dealt with by the Bobcat's defense. However, with two minutes left on the clock, Millersville were awarded a penalty kick for a trip on Jeramey Robbins. Colby Zeger stepped up to take the penalty but Ayers kept the Bobcat's in the game with a diving save to his left.
Neither team could find a winning goal in the second period of over-time. Millersville registered 16 shots to Wesleyan's 5, and had 14 corners to Wesleyan's 2. Derek Ayers recorded 7 saves to Benzing's 1.
The Bobcat's travel to Shippensburg on Wednesday September 11 for a 5:00pm kick-off, without Capstick due to suspension.
