Box Score ATHENS – Head coach Patrick Holguin discussed this week about changing up some tactics to create more and better scoring opportunities for his West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat soccer team.
The Lady Bobcats had scored just three goals in their last six games.
Whatever changes coach Holguin made, they certainly worked against Concord University here today in a MEC contest.
The Lady Bobcats had their best offensive showing of the year with a 4-0 victory.
Wesleyan's first goal came in the 13th minute when Megan McCoy played a cross on a free kick just outside the box to Keenan Moreta who found the back of the net.
Hannah Gurtis gave Wesleyan a 2-0 lead in the 40th minute after playing a ball from Abbey Lindblad (pictured).
Just six minutes into the second half, Kristi Dalton scored a goal to up the Wesleyan lead to 3-0.
Lexi Battocchi was credited with the assist.
Wesleyan wrapped up the scoring in the 62nd minute of action when Lindblad sent a corner kick to Rachel Ritchey who beat Concord keeper Kaitlyn Hannrahan.
Wesleyan owned 8-4 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 3-2 margin in corner kicks.
Lauren Duncan and Macey Thomas shared time in net for Wesleyan.
Duncan played 69 minutes and turned away three shots while Thomas played 21 minutes and made one save.
Wesleyan improved to 7-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the MEC.
They will return to action this Wednesday in a big rematch with Notre Dame at 2 p.m.
Notre Dame currently sits atop the MEC standings while Wesleyan is second.
Wesleyan handed Notre Dame their only loss of the season, a 1-0 overtime win on Sept. 20.
