Box Score BUCKHANNON – Rachel Ritchey (pictured) moved from her usual defender position to out front and the move paid off for head coach Patrick Holguin here Saturday evening against Urbana in a Mountain East Conference showdown.
Ritchey scored a pair of first-half goals to lead Wesleyan to a 2-1 victory.
Ritchey tallied her first goal at the 22:46 mark when she played a header to the back of the net off a long pass from Megan McCoy.
Urbana came right back with their lone goal a minute later when Emily Retterer scored an unassisted goal after working her way between the Wesleyan defense and scoring to the top left corner of the net.
Ritchey scored her second goal at the 27 minute mark on a direct kick from 25 yards out.
Wesleyan would make that 2-1 score stand up the rest of the way.
Wesleyan owned a huge advantage in shots by a 29-4 margin and had a 12-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Wesleyan also had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Lady Bobcat keeper Lauren Duncan turned away two shots to record the win.
Wesleyan improved to 8-2-2 overall and 6-2-2 in the MEC.
Urbana dropped to 2-8-3 overall and 1-7-3 in the MEC.
Wesleyan will return to action this Tuesday as they host Shepherd at 3:30 p.m.
The Lady 'Cats defeated Shepherd on Sept. 23 by a 1-0 score.
