Box Score CHARLESTON – The West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team picked up a huge road win today at the University of Charleston in a MEC contest.
Wesleyan won a 1-0 decision.
The lone goal of the game came from Keenan Moreta (pictured) at the 17:37 mark in the first half.
Moreta scored on a header after playing a ball from Jessica Hong on a set piece by Wesleyan.
Wesleyan started the day in fourth place in the MEC standings.
With the win, they leapfrogged Shepherd into third place and the three points they picked up puts Wesleyan just one point behind Charleston now for second place in the standings.
Wesleyan also had two more conference games left compared to just one for Charleston and Shepherd.
The top four teams in the MEC earn play-off berths and the top two host a game in the first round.
Wesleyan owned a 13-4 advantage in shots and a 7-1 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Wesleyan keeper Lauren Duncan turned away the lone shot she saw.
The Lady Bobcats also owned a 6-2 lead in corner kicks.
Wesleyan is now 9-3-2 overall and 7-3-2 in the MEC.
Charleston dropped to 9-6-1 overall and 8-5 in the MEC.
Wesleyan will return to action this Wednesday when they host Wheeling Jesuit at 7 p.m.
