Volleyball Lady 'Cats Lose To WJU In MEC Semi-Finals

WHEELING – The West Virginia Wesleyan College volleyball season came to a disappointing end at the hands of nationally-ranked Wheeling Jesuit tonight in the semi-finals of the Mountain East Conference.

The Lady 'Cats were swept by Wheeling Jesuit by a 3-0 score. (25-19, 25-16, 25-13).

The first set was a truly back-and-fourth affair as the two teams seemingly traded points.

Wesleyan started to think upset as they led at the midway point of the first set by a 12-9 score.

The Lady Bobcats continued to hold the lead by the slimmest of margins at 17-16, but Wheeling Jesuit closed strong as the finished the set with a 9-2 run to take the victory.

Wheeling Jesuit led the second set by a 14-13 score, but again took command of the set late as they finished it with an11-3 run.

Wesleyan never led in the third and final set.

Erin Bond led the Lady Bobcats with eleven kills, while Lindsay Caldwell had nine.

Bond also contributed with three service aces.

Paulina Nottingham had 32 assists on the night.

Wheeling Jesuit will advance to play for the MEC Championship on Saturday against Fairmont State, who beat Shepherd in the other semi-final.

The Lady 'Cats end the year with an 11-13 record.
