Box Score BUCKHANNON -- The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat soccer team wrapped up second place in the Mountain East Conference with a 2-0 victory over West Liberty today at the Wood Street Field.
The win secures a first-round home play-off game for the Lady Bobcats. They will host Charleston on Wednesday at a time to be announced.
Wesleyan erased any doubt of the outcome of this contest as they scored their first goal in under a minute into the action when Colette Biondi scored on a ball that was misplayed by the West Liberty defense.
Biondi played the ball to the upper right of th net past West Liberty keeper Allie Warsaw.
Shaelyn McNamara was credited with the assist.
The ealry Wesleyan goal seemed to take the life out the West Liberty squad.
Wesleyan tacked on another goal just 10 minutes later when Biondi played a cross to Keenan Moreta who scored in front of the net to give Wesleyan a 2-0 lead.
Wesleyan would take that 2-0 lead into the intermission and would keep West Liberty off the scoreboard in the second half.
Shots were even at 6-6 but Wesleyan owned a 5-3 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Wesleyan keeper Lauren Duncan posted her ninth shutout of the year turning away three shots.
West Liberty could have earned the fourth seed in the MEC play-offs with a win.
Instead their season comes to a close as they finished the year with a 6-7-3 mark overall and a 6-6-2 record in the MEC.
Wesleyan upped their record to 11-3-2 overall and 9-3-2 in the MEC.
