Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN –It was destined to be one of those nights for the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats tonight as they prepared to take on the Shepherd Lady Rams in a Mountain East Conference contest.
The team bus broke down en route and the team arrived at Shepherd 45 minutes before the tip.
"We waited 90 minutes get another bus," remarked head coach Michael Bari.
The Lady Bobcats went on to lose a 75-59 decision to Shepherd.
"We never got it going,"Bari said. "We looked like we were running in the mud. We came out flat defensivley."
One highlight of the night for the Lady Bobcats was the play off the bench of junior forward Lauren Graham (pictured).
Graham scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds in 20 minutes of action.
"We did have some people play hard off the bench like Laruen," Bari said.
Wesleyan was hurt in the loss by turning the ball over 27 times.
Wesleyan started slow and fell behind by a 7-2 score, but rattled off three consecutive three pointers to take an 11-7 lead.
Allie Browne hit consecutive treys and Graham popped in one to give Wesleyan a four-point lead.
After Kristina Prange hit a three for Shepherd, Grahman drained another three to keep Wesleyan ahead at 14-10.
An Adrian Cunningham jumper kept Wesleyan ahead at 20-18 with 8:46 left in the first half, but Shepherd took control of the game after that.
The Lady Rams went on a 17-0 run and never looked back as they took a commanding 35-20 lead.
Grahman put an end to the run with a jumper to bring Wesleyan to within 13 at 35-22 with 3:19 left in the first half.
Shepherd went into the half leading by a 41-26 score.
"We really struggled to score the last 10 minutes of the first half," Bari said.
Shepherd started the second half on an 11-0 jaunt that increased their lead 52-26.
The Lady Rams' biggest lead came was 31 points, at 58-27, with 13:02 remaining.
Shepherd still held a big lead at 74-46 with 3:51 left before Wesleyan closed strong.
Wesleyan's Susan Meyer single-handily scored the next eight points by herself to make it a 74-54 score.
Alexa Mortenson wrapped up the scoring with a three-point for Wesleyan to account for the final 75-59 score.
Grahman led Wesleyan in scoring with 14 points while Browne was the other Lady Bobcat to reach double digits with 11 points.
Mari Stewart pulled down a team-high eight rebounds for Wesleyan.
Cunningham had three of Wesleyan's 12 assists.
Wesleyan, 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the MEC, will return to action Thursday, Dec. 4 when they travel to Virginia-Wise for a MEC clash.
Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
