Volleyball Lady 'Cats Fall to UVa.-Wise, 3-1

WISE (Va.) – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to UVa.-Wise in a Mountain East Conference clash Friday night.

Wesleyan dropped the first set by a 25-11 score but rebounded to win the second by a 25-22. They lost the third set by a close 25-21 margin and the dropped the fourth set by a 25-19 score.

The Lady Bobcats kept it close early after a kill by Wesleyan's Erin Bond and an attack error by UVa.-Wise's Karley Allen made the score 6-5 in advantage in of UVa.-Wise.

The Cavaliers though dominated the rest of the set outscoring Wesleyan by a 19-6 margin.

Wesleyan stormed into an 8-3 lead in the second set only to see UVa.-Wise come back to deadlock the contest at 18-18.

A kill by Samantha Swann put Wesleyan up by a 24-21 score, and after a service error by Wesleyan, Erin Bond treated Wesleyan to the win with a kill.

Wesleyan again jumped into an early lead in the third set by a 10-5 margin, but this time they weren't able to maintain the advantage.

UVa.-Wise took the lead on an Allen kill at 12-11 as the two team traded the lead back-and-fourth. Wesleyan had their last lead at 17-16.

UVa.-Wise would close out the set with a 9-4 run.

Just like the prior sets, Wesleyan started quick with a 6-3 advantage, but then gave up the next seven points as they trailed 10-6.

A kill by Wesleyan's Stacie Baumann deadlocked the game at 12-12, but the Lady 'Cats couldn't get any closer as they lost the set by a 25-19 score.

Bond and Baumann both had 12 kills for Wesleyan.

Paulina Nottingham had 41 assist for the Lady Bobcats.

Katlyn Hoge and Lindsay Caldwell each had 13 digs for Wesleyan.

The loss dropped Wesleyan to 10-11 overall and 9-6 in the MEC.

UVa.-Wise improved to 13-14 in the overall and 6-9 in the conference.

Wesleyan will have little time to relax on their southern swing as they return to action Saturday at 10 a.m. against Concord.

The contest will be the regular-season finale the Lady Bobcats.

The MEC Tournament will start on Thursday, Nov. 13 at Wheeling Jesuit.
