Men's Tennis Bounces Back With a Victory

White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. -- The Bluefield State Blues men's tennis team ranked #1 in the ITA Atlantic region, made quick work of West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday , handing the Bobcats a 8-1 defeat.

Bluefield eeked out an 8-6 when at the top double spot on the way to a sweet, and  the Blues never look back as they stormed through the singles losing the only one position.

"It was basically men against boys, and our inexperience and youth showed," said coach Marc Walters. "Give Bluefield a lot of credit, they are a veteran team and they played us with focus and energy. They didn't mess around."

The only highlight for the Bobcats on the day was Jacobo Rendon's victory at #4 singles, where he took a 6-4 third set win over Conner Pickering.  The freshman continues his solid play, moving to 5-2 in all matches this spring.

The Bobcats fall to  3 - 2 overall on the season, and will now face two southeast region opponents to begin their spring break swing in North Carolina. Wesleyan will square off against Lenoir-Rhyne University Monday, before heading to Pfeiffer University on Tuesday.

Hickory, NC-- The West Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team got a win in their second match of a 5 game road trip by defeating Lenoir-Rhyne University 6-3 Monday afternoon. The Bobcats bounced back from their loss Saturday to #1 Bluefield State by taking two doubles and four singles matches, with freshman Tim Stephens clinching the team win by closing out his #3 singles match over L-R's Filip  Dobrosaviljevic 6-4 6-1.

Wesleyan, playing out of region against the Bears of the South Atlantic Conference, move to 4-2 on the season while Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 3-7. Temperatures reached into the 70s during the match, only the Bobcats' third day outdoors this spring.

Aitor Reparaz got the Bobcats started with a 64 61 win at #2 singles, and then Jacobo Rendon, Stephens, and Andres Fernandes followed to provide the final margin. The 'Cats travel to Misenheimer, NC Tuesday to take on Pfeiffer University from the Conference Carolinas. Match time is set for 2pm.
