Wesleyan Netters Top Shaw 6-3

Raleigh, NC -- Joel Izquierdo spurred a solid team win with wins at #1 singles and doubles as the Bobcats claimed a key regional win over Shaw University in Raleigh Tuesday afternoon.

Izquierdo paired with fellow junior  Aitor Reparaz to take an 8-5 win while Nathan Savill and Jacobo Rendon won at the number 3 doubles spot by the same score. Shaw took the number 2 doubles so Wesleyan held a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

Rendon, Savill,  and Andre Fernandes quickly followed with wins at 4, 5 and 6 to give the Bobcats the win. Izquierdo provided the final margin by posting a 6-3 2-6 6-2 win over Shaw's Charles Silva in a matchup of two top ten regionally ranked players.

The Bobcats, currently ranked third in the region, solidified their chances to gain entry to the NCAA regional tournament by defeating the fifth ranked Bears.

Wesleyan is off until this Saturday when they host the region's number one team Bluefield State at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Match time is set for 1 PM.
