Softball Sitting Well Heading In to Final Weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Buckhannon, W.Va. --  Wesleyan's softball team has a reputation of being atop the conference and headed in to the last weekend of the 2014 regular season, this year is no different.  After just swiping two games from conference foe, Glenville State, the Bobcats are currently 35-9 overall and 20-4 in the MEC, just behind 17-3 UVa-Wise.

The Bobcats are currently on a five-game winning streak with Urbana and Notre Dame College left in their sights.  Right fielder Olivia Gore, who has moved up in the lineup to the second position behind 2nd baseman Alex Furr, has sparked things up at the front providing the Bobcats with an extra boost of power.  A natural lefty, she has bombed a team 2nd best five home runs, only behind senior Jacqui Omichinski with six, while compiling a team leading .410 average.

Omichinski and Jessica Griffin along with Kristina Nelson have done the bulk of the work on the mound combining for a team ERA of 2.51.  Griffin and Omichinski have thrown a combined 23 complete games while Nelson has had much of her success from the pen earning an 11-3 record.

With four games left and weather a consistent factor the Bobcats will do what they can to earn the top MEC regular season spot.  The team will head to Urbana first on Saturday before closing Sunday at Notre Dame.  First pitch, both days, is scheduled for 1:00pm.
