Urbana, Ohio - The Wesleyan Bobcat Softball team took two games, both ending in eight innings, from the University of Urbana Saturday afternoon in Urbana, Ohio. The Bobcats claimed the first game 3-2 then followed up with a 5-4 victory to improve 37-9 overall. The second victory was also head coach Steve Warner's 850th career win as Wesleyan's Skipper.
Senior Jacqui Omichinski would strike out seven in the first game holding the Blue Knights to one earned run on seven hits. However, it was her partner in crime, Megan Malenstyn, who would be the hero going 3-4 from the plate with two RBI's and the game's winning solo homerun in the top of the 8th inning that propelled the 'Cats to the 3-2 win.
Wesleyan would need a run in the top of the 6th after scoring three in the 3rd to tie things up at 4-4 to help extend the game to, yet again, the top of the 8th where red hot, right fielder, Olivia Gore, would double in Carleigh Hall after she singled. Her run would prove to be all that Kristina Nelson needed to save senior Jessica Griffin's win. Second baseman, Alex Furr, was 4-5 at the leadoff position while Malenstyn followed up her game one performance with a 3-4 effort, scoring a run.
The team will travel to Notre Dame tonight to take on the Falcons Sunday at 1:00pm in the team's last regular season double-header.
