Buckhannon, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan Baseball and Softball teams were in action Saturday afternoon in double-header MEC action. The baseball team took two hard fought losses to the Fairmont State Fighting Faclons, the first of which went nine innings ending 3-1. The second game the Bobcats would be blanked 1-0 by the Falcons in the respective seven innings completing the Saturday sweep. The teams will meet again tomorrow as first pitch is slated for 2:00pm.
The softball team won both games against the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals, 11-0 and 3-1. The Bobcat bats would explode behind pitcher Jessica Griffin scoring 11 runs mercy ruling the 'Cards 11-0 in five innings. She would be the one to get things going in the bottom of the 2nd inning, solo homering to left field that sparked a three run inning. Wesleyan would follow that up with a four run bottom of the 3rd bringing the tally to 7-0. The Bobcats would tack on their final four runs of the game, nailing the coffin, in the bottom of the 4th led by a three-run Jessica Rodriguez homer to dead center field that was a no-doubter bringing the score to the final 11-0.
The second game was also controlled by the Bobcats, however not without two real bases loaded Cardinal scares that only manufactured one run. The Bobcats would do all their damage in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring all three of the team's runs as Megan Malenstyn and Jessica Griffin started out with back-to-back doubles before right fielder Olivia Gore singled in Malenstyn to start the scoring. Senior Jacqui Omichinski would earn the win going the full seven innings of work for the Bobcats. Wesleyan will be back in double-header action Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm as they host the West Liberty Hilltoppers.
