Wesleyan Takes First Two Against Pioneers

Buckhannon, W.Va. -- The Bobcat Baseball team swept the Saturday series against the Glenville State Pioneers in MEC double-header action at Hank Ellis Field 3-2 and 10-4, respectively.  This is the last regular season match up for both teams.

In the first game both pitchers did a handy job at keeping baserunners off their paths. Christopher Denno would go all seven for the Bobcats allowing only one earned run on eight hits with one Bobcat error.

With the Pioneers holding a slim 2-1 edge heading in to the bottom of the 7th, the Bobcats catcher, senior Spencer Webley would lead things off with a single before getting pitch ran for by Dillon Wagman.  Left fielder Michael Bolla would sacrifice Wagman in to scoring position before shortstop James Fraser would single in the tying run to make it 2-2.  That would bring up the top of the order and center fielder John Koon walked advancing Fraser to 2nd base.  The next batter, second baseman, senior, Tom Brunswick would hit in to what appeared to be an inning ending, 6-4-3 double play, but an erred throw on the turn skipped past the first baseman and Fraser scurried across home plate leaving the Pioneers and their fans in disbelief as the Bobcats claimed the 3-2 victory.

In the second game of the double-header the Bobcats would come out swining scoring four runs in the bottom of the 1st and three in the bottom of the 2nd.  Senior Robert Patterson was a big part of that as he, in the first, would take a hanging curve ball over the right field fence in a no-doubter that ignited the Bobcat crowd.

Seth Corwin would pick up the victory in five innings of work for the Bobcats as Chris Hall finished the last two holding the Pioneers off 10-4.  With the wins the Bobcats will try and complete the four game sweep Sunday as the two teams are scheduled to due battle again Sunday with the first pitch being at 1:00pm.
