Shippensburg, Pa. -- The #1 seeded West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats only needed five innings to surge past the #4 Mansfield Mountaineers, 8-0, Friday in opening round, Atlantic 2 Region action at the James I. Moyer complex in Shippensburg, Pa. Wesleyan scored four runs in the bottom of the first and three in the bottom of the second on their way to the handily victory.
Wesleyan scored four runs on four hits with two Mountaineer errors in the opening inning surmounting more than enough for senior Ace, Jacqui Omichinski. Omichinkski then held the Mountaineers scoreless in the top of the 2nd inning before belting a two-run homer of her own in a bottom of the 2nd, three run affair that pushed the Bobcat lead out to 7-0.
The Bobcats would tack on one more in the bottom of the 4th putting the pressure on the Mountaineers to score in the top of the 5th to extend the game but the Bobcats were able to slam the door with three final outs.
Wesleyan will square off with Shippensburg, Pa. Saturday morning at 10am to determine the winner of the Atlantic 2 Region. The two teams met earliet in the season during Spring Break in Clermont, Fla where the Bobcats were able to claim the 8-2 victory. The winner of that will take on the Atlantic 1 Region winner, Sunday.
