BUCKHANNON -- Zach Schademan had a career day for West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon as the Bobcats battled Notre Dame in a MEC clash at Ross Field.
The sophomore wide receiver caught nine passes for 141 yards and four touchdowns.
Despite the effort of Schademan, it wasn't enough to pull out a victory for the 'Cats as they dropped a 47-44 decision to the Falcons.
Wesleyan scored first on a five-yard pass from Jeremy Musselman to Chase Blackwell with five minutes gone in the first quarter.
Notre Dame marched right down the field on a six-play drive that took only 1:18 when Kenneth Butler scores on a 13-yard run.
Wesleyan regained the lead at 14-7 on their next drive when Schademan caught his first touchdown of the day, a 27-yard reception from Musselman, with 5:34 left in the first quarter.
Notre Dame scored 20 unanswered points to take a 27-14 lead before Wesleyan kicker Kasper Bernild ended the first half with a 43-yard field goal to close the deficit at the intermission to 27-17.
Wesleyan scored on their first drive of the second half when Schademan caught his second touchdown of the afternoon. It was a 24-yard strike from Musselman.
The Bobcat momentum would be short lived as Notre Dame's Emmanuel Smith took the opening kick-off back 95 yards a Falcon touchdown. That made the score 34-24 in favor of Notre Dame.
A 32-yard field goal by Notre Dame's Kyle Kaplan increased the Falcon lead to 37-24 with 5:46 remaining in the third quarter.
Wesleyan started a comeback after that scoring 13 unanswered.
Michael Anderson hauled in a 17-yard pass from Musselman for a score to close the gap to 37-30. The extra-point attempt was no good.
Notre Dame botched a snap on a punt attempt and Wesleyan took over the ball at the Falcon 15-yard line.
It took plays for Wesleyan to score with Schademan catching his third score, a 10-yard pass from Musselman that tied the game at 37-37 with 13:21 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Kaplan kicked a 40-yard field goal to give Notre Dame the lead back at 40-37 with 8:23 remaining.
Wesleyan though on their next possession went right down the field on a five-play, 63-yard drive that ended with Schademan's fourth score, a 15-yard catch from Musselman.
Bernild's kick was good to treat the Bobcats to a 44-40 lead.
Notre Dame produced the game-winning drive on their next possession with a 73-yard drive that ate up 3:27 off the clock.
Kyle Perkins haulded in a 34-pass from Ray Russ to give Notre Dame the game-winner.
Wesleyan will return to action next Saturday as they visit Shepherd in a MEC contest.
Kick-off is scheduled for noon.
