Lady 'Cats Fall Twice in Debut at Crimson Hawk Invitational

INDIANA, Pa. -- It was a tough start to the 2014 volleyball season for the West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team.

The Lady Bobcats opened their season today in the Indiana (Pa.) University Crimson Hawk Invitational against hostess I.U.P and then Pitt-Johnstown.

The Lady Bobcats fell in straight sets in their debut against I.U.P. losing 25-14, 25-17 and 25-20.

Erin Bond (Macungie, Pa./Psychology) had seven kills, one ace, and two blocks while Stacie Baumann (Gahanna, Ohio/Mathematics) had six kills and one block.

Paulina Nottingham (Champaign, Ill./Marketing) led the team with 17 assists while Katlyn Hoge (Oakdale, Pa./Biology) paced the team with 10 digs.

Wesleyan took it right to the defending PSAC Tournament champion Pitt-Johnstown winning the first set 25-20.

Pitt-Johnstown turned the tables on the Lady Bobcats winning the next two sets by identical 25-20 scores before winning the final set by a 25-10 margin. 

Baumann had seven kills, one ace and two blocks while Bond added seven kills and five blocks.

Nottingham led the team again in assists with 25 while Hoge and 15 digs and Hannah Moore (Altoona, Pa./Psychology) had 13.

Head coach Jackie Hinton and her Lady Bobcats (0-2) will wrap up play in the Crimson Hawk Invitational Saturday.
