Box Score FAIRMONT – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats took the court this afternoon knowing that they would have to play sound basketball to defeat the number one team in the Mountain East Conference when they took on the Fairmont State Lady Falcons.
Despite keeping it competitive throughout the game, the Lady 'Cats fell by a score of 62-53.
Wesleyan dug out an early hole after being down 10-4 eight minutes into the game after Allie Browne made a three pointer to pull the Lady 'Cats within three. After a successful tip-in by KiKi DeVane two minutes later the game was tied up 14-14.
The Lady Falcons however would continue to fight to ensure that the Lady Cats would not pull ahead in the first half.
At halftime Wesleyan trailed 32-25.
Coming out of the break, Fairmont State went on a 9-4 run and went up 41-29 with 17:22 remaining in the second half.
The Lady 'Cats would claw their way back to get within one point after an Adrian Cunningham free throw made the score 52-51 with 3:47 remaining.
Fairmont State then went on a 10-2 run to finish the game and defeat Wesleyan 62-53.
Mari Stewart led the Bobcats in scoring with 21 points, four rebounds and five steals.
Cunningham also contributed with 10 points and four steals.
The loss drops Wesleyan to 2-15 overall on the season and 2-12 in the MEC.
The Lady 'Cats are back at action on February 2 at 5:30 p.m. when they welcome the visiting Shepherd Lady Rams to the Rockefeller Center.
Shepherd is currently 13-7 overall and 10-4 in the MEC.
