Cvechko Scores Lone Goal As Lady Bobcats Top Charleston

CHARLESTON – In a battle of two of the three top teams in the Mountain East Conference, the 13th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats earned a big win on the road today against the University of Charleston at Trace Fork Stadium.

Charleston entered the game in third place in the Mountain East Conference while the Lady Bobcats set atop the MEC standings.

Wesleyan earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Charleston.

Lauren Cvechko had the lone goal of the game for Wesleyan at the 41:09 mark in the first half.

She put in a deflection off of a corner kick for the unassisted goal.

The shutout was the 11th of the season for the Lady Bobcats.

Shots were even at 5-5 while Charleston owned a 3-2 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Wesleyan keeper Hillary Dewitt turned away all three shots she saw.

The Lady Bobcats owned a 4-2 margin in corner kicks.

Wesleyan was guilty of 12 fouls while Charleston was called for 11.

Wesleyan improved to 11-0-2 overall and 9-0-2 in the MEC.

Charleston dropped to 7-2-3 overall and 6-2-2 in the MEC.

The Lady Bobcats will return to action this Thursday at Fairmont State in a MEC contest.

Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
