BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team picked up a key non-conference regional victory today over Lock Haven University at Culpepper Stadium.
The Bobcats earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
Juwon Akintunde scored the lone goal of the game as he put in a shot from in front of the Lock Haven net at the 16:41 mark of the game.
Paul Smith had the assist on the goal.
The Wesleyan defense and keeper Luka Pauk held off a furious second half offensive attack from Lock Haven.
Lock Haven had eight shots and put five shots on goal that Pauk scooped up in the second half.
The shutout was the sixth of the season for Wesleyan and their fourth shutout in their last five games.
Pauk turned away 11 shots overall as he recorded his fifth shutout. He upped his record to 5-4-1 on the season.
Lock Haven owned a 15-10 advantage in shots and an 11-7 margin in shots-on-goal.
Lock Haven also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Wesleyan was guilty of 17 fouls and received one yellow card while Lock Haven was called for 11 fouls including two yellow cards.
The win put Wesleyan back at the .500 mark as they improved their record to 6-6-1.
They will return to action Sunday when they host Notre Dame at 1 p.m.
