Heartbreaker On The Pitch For the 'Cats Against Notre Dame

BUCKHANNON – Heartbreaking doesn't even begin to describe the result for the West Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team today against Notre Dame College in a Mountain East Conference clash at Culpepper Field.

For 89:97 seconds the two teams were battling to a scoreless 0-0 tie.

Then the unthinkable happened as Notre Dame scored with two seconds remaining in the game to escape with a 1-0 victory.

Notre Dame had a throw-in that landed in the box and was finally controlled by Declan McGivern to the right of the net.

He sent a cross in front of the Wesleyan goal to Alexis Le Ho who found the back left corner of the net for the stunning game-winner.

Notre Dame owned a 16-6 margin in shots and a 10-3 lead in shots-on-goal.

Wesleyan keeper Luka Pauk turned away nine shots.

Notre Dame held an 8-2 margin in corner kicks.

Wesleyan was called for 13 fouls while Notre Dame was guilty of 12.

The loss dropped Wesleyan to 6-7-1 overall and 4-6 in the MEC.

With Wheeling Jesuit's win over Shepherd today, the Bobcats have dropped back into fifth place in the MEC three points behind Wheeling Jesuit.

Wheeling Jesuit also has a game in hand as they still have three MEC contests left while Wesleyan only has two.

Wesleyan will return to the pitch this Thursday when they host Shepherd.

The contest will begin at 5 p.m.
