Box Score BUCKHANNON – Four different Lady Bobcats got into the scoring column as 11th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan cruised past Shepherd University today by a 4-0 score in a Mountain East Conference contest at Culpepper Stadium.
The current MEC Defensive Player of the Week Rachel Ritchey showed off her offensive prowess with a goal at the 34:42 mark. Her shot deflected off a Shepherd defender and off the fingertips of Shepherd goalie Christi LaBella for the score.
Hannah Gurtis and Laura Hill were credited with the assists.
Gurtis got into the scoring act when she played a cross in front of the Shepherd net from Emily Blake and scored to give Wesleyan a 2-0 lead at the 35:40 mark.
With just a few seconds remaining in the first half, Keenan Moreta (pictured) played a cross from Natalie Prater and found the back of the net to treat Wesleyan to a 3-0 advantage.
Blake scored the lone goal in the second half at the 63:33 mark as she put on a shot on goal from about 22 yards out that went to the far corner of the net that put Wesleyan up by the final of 4-0.
Kristi Dalton was credited the assist on the Blake goal.
Wesleyan owned a 21-5 margin in shots and an 11-4 led in shots-on-goal.
Wesleyan keeper Hillary Dewitt posted her 14th shutout of the season as she turned away four shots.
The Lady Bobcats owned a 7-1 lead in corner kicks.
Wesleyan was called for 11 fouls while Shepherd was guilty of seven.
The win improved Wesleyan to 14-0-2 overall and 12-0-2 in the MEC.
Shepherd dropped to 7-7-2 overall and 6-6-2 in the MEC.
Wesleyan will return to action this Sunday when they host Urbana at 1 p.m.
It will be Senior Day for the Lady Bobcats as they recognize their eight seniors.
