Box Score BUCKHANNON – It was an unexpected result for the 13th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat soccer team today against West Liberty in a Mountain East Conference contest at Culpepper Stadium.
West Liberty came into the game with a 2-4-2 record, but was able to escape Culpepper Stadium with a point after a 0-0 tie following two overtime periods.
Wesleyan had two near misses early in the game when Kristi Dalton and Colette Biondi both had shots go off the top of the cross bar in the first 22 minutes of the game.
Wesleyan keeper Hillary Dewitt made several nice saves in the second half to keep West Liberty off the board.
In the two overtime sessions, the Wesleyan defense didn't allow a shot-on-goal by West Liberty.
Wesleyan owned a 19-8 margin in shots and an 8-7 lead in shots-on-goal.
Wesleyan edged West Liberty in corner kicks by a 5-2 margin.
The Lady Bobcats were guilty of nine fouls while West Liberty was called for seven.
Patrick Holguin and his Lady Bobcats are now 9-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the MEC.
West Liberty moved to 2-4-3 overall and 2-3-3 in the MEC.
Wesleyan will return to the pitch Tuesday when they visit Concord at 2 p.m.
