Box Score BUCKHANNON – Following two-head scratching ties against Mountain East Conference competition, it was a return to normalcy tonight for the 13th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat soccer team.
Wesleyan returned to the win column with a 2-0 victory over Wheeling Jesuit here tonight at Culpepper Stadium.
After being shut out their last two games in 0-0 ties, Wesleyan wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard against Wheeling Jesuit.
With just 31 seconds ticked off the clock, Colette Biondi scored after heading in a cross from Tiana Bennardo.
Wesleyan made it 2-0 following a Jane Schleicher goal at the 22:22 minute mark of the first half.
Sami Lackner sent in a corner kick into Rachel Ritchey in the box, who dropped a pass back to Schleicher who buried into the back of the net.
Wesleyan took that 2-0 score into the intermission and all the way to the 90th minute.
The shutout was the 10th of the season for the Lady Bobcats.
It was also Wesleyan keeper Hillary Dewitt's 10th shutout as she made two saves in the win.
Wesleyan owned a 23-4 lead in shots and a 13-2 margin in shots-on-goal.
The Lady Bobcats had an 8-1 margin in corner kicks.
Wesleyan was guilty of 14 fouls while Wheeling Jesuit was called for four.
The win improved Patrick Holguin's team to 10-0-2 overall and 8-0-2 in the MEC.
They will return to action this Sunday at Charleston.
Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
