BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team wrapped up their 2015 calendar year schedule in fine fashion with an 82-64 victory over the Bluefield State College Blues in a non-conference affair today in Rockefeller Center.

Tanner McGrew added another double-double with 31 points and 16 rebounds while Fred Brondsted (pictured) tossed in 20 points and four rebounds.

The victory lifted the Bobcats of head coach Gary Nottingham to 8-2 overall.

Bluefield State opened up an early 8-6 lead, but Garrett Grantham turned in a three-point play after being fouled on his lay-up, Brondsted made a long jumper and McGrew made consecutive baskets in the paint as Wesleyan grabbed a 15-8 lead.

It was a lead the Bobcats would never relinquish.

Up 17-15, Wesleyan scored the next 13 points of the game.

McGrew made a short jumper and a foul shot, Chris Dewberry unleased a three-pointer, Brondsted made two straight three-pointers and later added a foul shot during the run.

That put Wesleyan up 30-15 with 6:26 left in the first half.

Bluefield went on a 14-5 run to make it a 35-29 contest with 2:49 remaining in the opening half.

Wesleyan closed the half on a 7-0 run.

Ja'Sahn Johnson tossed in two free throws, Brondsted nailed a trey and Grantham made a lay-up.

That put Wesleyan up at the half by 13, at 42-29.

A McGrew lay-up gave Wesleyan their biggest lead of the game at the 11:01 mark, up 22 at 59-37.

Bluefield State went on a 15-6 run to close the gap to 65-52 at the 7:37 mark, but couldn't get any closer than the 13 points.

Wesleyan outscored Bluefield State by a 17-12 margin the rest of the way.

Following McGrew and Brondsted in the scoring column for Wesleyan were Grantham with 13 while Johnson had 10.

Wesleyan owned a 34-26 lead in rebounding.

The 'Cats shot the ball at a 56 percent clip hitting on 28 of their 50 shots.

Wesleyan will now be off over their Christmas break and will return to action on Monday, Jan. 4 when they host Urbana at 7:30 p.m.
