Box Score SOUTH EUCLID (Ohio) – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats put three players in double-digits, but it wasn't enough to secure a win against the Notre Dame Lady Falcons here Thursday evening in a Mountain East Conference clash.
Mari Stewart scored a game-high 17 points while Adrian Cunningham tallied 16 points and Allie Browne added 15 points, but the Lady Bobcats dropped a 67-63 decision.
Wesleyan started out fast as they scored the game's first seven points.
Stewart made a pair of jumpers and Browne uncorked a three-pointer to give Wesleyan their 7-0 lead with 97 seconds gone.
Following an 8-2 run by Notre Dame, Stewart knocked down a jumper to give Wesleyan an 11-8 lead with 16:32 showing on the clock.
Wesleyan's offense would go stagnant over the next five minutes as Notre Dame went on a 11-0 run to take a 19-11 advantage with 11:15 left in the half.
Cunningham ended the run with two free throws and Browne knocked down a jumper to bring the Lady 'Cats to within four, at 19-15, with 10:36 left in the first half.
Notre Dame extended their lead to six at 28-22, but KiKi DeVane made consecutive jumpers to make it a 28-26 score with 5:08 on the clock.
Notre Dame took a 31-28 lead into the break.
The Lady Falcons built an 11-point lead, at 59-48, with 5:44 left in the game.
DeVane put in two free throws and Stewart made a short jumper to close the score to 59-52.
Notre Dame though pushed their lead back to 11, at 65-54, with 1:40 remaining.
Cunningham darted inside for a lay-up, Stewart popped in a jumper and Cunningham came back with a jumper for a 6-0 Wesleyan run that made it a 65-60 score with 25 seconds left.
Notre Dame nailed two key free throws to go up 67-60 before Stacy Remer (pictured) hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to wrap up the scoring.
Wesleyan shot 40.6 percent from the floor making good on 26 of their 64 field goal attempts.
The Lady 'Cats were outrebounded by a 37-32 margin.
Wesleyan's bench was outscored by a 16-2 margin.
The loss dropped Wesleyan to 2-19 overall and 2-16 in the MEC.
Notre Dame improved to 14-10 overall and 10-8 in the MEC.
Wesleyan will return to action this Saturday when they host Urbana at 2 p.m.
