Grantham Dishes Out 15 Assists in Victory Over Urbana

BUCKHANNONGarrett Grantham broke a Mountain East Conference season-high today against the Urbana Blue Knights here today at Rockefeller Center.

In a 71-56 victory over Urbana, Grantham recorded a MEC season-high 15 assists. The previous high was held by West Liberty's Indiana Faithfull who recorded 12 on two different occasions.

Grantham entered the game as Wesleyan's assist leader with 3.9 assist per game.

Wesleyan put four players in double digits as Chris Dewberry (pictured) led the way scoring a game-high 22 points.

Tanner McGrew followed with 14 points and nine rebounds, Anthony Richards poured in 13 points and Grantham had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Grantham was just one rebound short of a triple-double.

Following a 4-4 start to the game, Wesleyan rattled off the next eight points to take a 12-4 lead.

McGrew popped in a jumper, Dewberry darted inside for a lay-up, McGrew knocked down a 10-footer and Grantham scored a lay-up during the run.

Urbana went on a 12-4 jaunt to take a 16-15 advantage, but it was the last lead the Blue Knights would own.

Grantham scored on a jumper and Dewberry downed a trey to give the lead back to Wesleyan at 20-16 with 5:30 remaining in the half.

Wesleyan went into the break with a 33-27 lead.

Urbana started the second half on a 7-2 run to close the gap to 35-34 but Dewberry unleashed a three-pointer to make it a 38-34 contest with four minutes gone in the second half.

Wesleyan maintained their lead at 49-47 with 7:44 to go before they started to pull away.

Luke Welty hit a baseline jumper, McGrew nailed two foul shots and Dewberry hit another three to treat Wesleyan to a nine-point lead at 56-47 with 5:45 left.

Wesleyan closed with a big flourish outscoring Urbana by a 15-9 margin in the final five minutes for their 15-point victory.

Wesleyan shot an impressive 54.2 percent from the floor.

The 'Cats owned a 31-22 rebounding margin.

The win improved Gary Nottingham's club to 11-14 overall and 9-10 in the MEC.

Wesleyan has now won three of their last four games.

They will return to action this Thursday when they host West Liberty at 7:30 p.m. It will be the home finale for the Bobcats.
