Wesleyan Women End Season With Loss to Glenville State

GLENVILLE – It wasn't the ending to the regular season head coach Michael Bari was hoping for when his West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats battled the Glenville State Lady Pioneers here today at the Waco Center in a Mountain East Conference clash.

The Lady 'Cats simply couldn't slow down the Glenville State offense in a 104-55 loss.

Wesleyan ended the regular season with a 4-22 record overall and a 3-19 MEC record.

They will enter the MEC Tournament as the 11th seed.

They will likely face Notre Dame on the road this Tuesday in the first-round at time to be announced. All first-round games are hosted by the higher seed. The second round and all future games will be played at the Charleston Civic Center.

The MEC will officially release the play-off pairings later tonight.

Wesleyan did keep the contest close early.

Down 12-5 early, Mari Stewart made a jumper and KiKi DeVane went inside for consecutive lay-ups to bring Wesleyan to within one, at 12-11, with 14:10 remaining in the first half.

After two baskets by Glenville State, Allyson Freiermuth and Stewart each knocked down a jumper and Chloe Bland made a free throw to deadlock the game at 16-16 with 10:57 left in the half.

Glenville State went on an 11-0 run for a 27-16 lead before Alexa Mortenson (pictured) fired in a three-pointer to bring Wesleyan to with eight, at 27-19.

Glenville State scored the next seven points to pull away from the Lady 'Cats as they took a commanding 34-19 lead with 6:33 left in the half.

The Lady Pioneers ended the half with a flourish as they outscored Wesleyan by a 24-8 margin.

Wesleyan trailed by a 58-27 score at the half.

The second half didn't get any better for the Lady 'Cats as they were outscored by a 46-28 margin.

Glenville State's biggest lead in second half was 51 points.

Glenville State made 17 three-pointers in the game. They shot 51.9 percent for the game, hitting on 41 of their 79 shots.

Wesleyan shot 36.5 percent for the floor, hitting on 23 of their 63 shots.

Stewart had a double-double for the Lady 'Cats with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Mortenson led Wesleyan in scoring with 17 points while adding six rebounds and four assists.

DeVane added seven points and Stacy Remer put in six.

Glenville State held a narrow 41-40 margin in rebounding.
