CHARLOTTE (N.C.) -- The West Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team was defeated by a score of 6-3 against Lenoir Rhyne here today in a men's college tennis match.
The Bobcats were swept in the doubles and, despite a valiant effort from the singles spots, dropped the first three positions to fall to 1-2 on their southern spring break trip.
The Bears won tiebreakers at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to close out the match, and then added a straight set win at No. 2.
The 'Cats took the last three singles matches in straight sets to account for the final margin.
"We made some strides today in singles, but our doubles struggles continue," said head coach Marc Walters. "We are getting there, but our lack of matches is catching up to us in the face of players who have been competing for several weeks already at a higher level than us and it shows in the clutch situations.
Two days earlier on Monday, the 'Cats were swept by Bluefield State by a 9-0 score.
The road does not get easier for the Bobcats as they travel to No. 29 ranked Francis Marion on Thursday in Florence, South Carolina.
They are scheduled to play No. 30 Wingate on Friday near Charlotte before returning home Saturday.
