VIENNA – The West Virginia Wesleyan baseball team held off a pesky Ohio Valley team here by an 11-9 score in a non-conference clash Tuesday afternoon.

The win improved the 'Cats of head coach Randy Tenney to 2-3 overall.

Wesleyan scored an unearned run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead.

Nick Jones had a two-run single to right field and Tre Kerns knocked in a run on a fielder's choice in the top of the second to increase their lead to 4-0.

Ohio Valley scored twice in the bottom of the second to make it a 4-2 contest, but Wesleyan countered with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth frame.

Kerns and Logan Moneypenny each knocked in a run for the 'Cats in the fourth.

Ohio Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 6-5 game.

The game stayed at 6-5 until the top of the seventh when Ryan Rado and Michael Bolla each drove home a run for Wesleyan to push their lead to 8-5.

Wesleyan increased their lead to 11-5 when Moneypenny, Rado and Corey Lynn each knocked in a run in the top of the eighth inning.

Ohio Valley would score one in their half of the eighth and threaten the 'Cats in the bottom of the ninth with three runs, but Wesleyan slammed the door shut on Ohio Valley maintaining their two run lead.

Wesleyan pounded out 16 hits in the victory.

Jones and Lynn led the way with three apiece while Kerns, Moneypenny, Bolla and Wyatt Adkins each had two apiece.

Austin Boam picked up the win in a relief role for the 'Cats. He pitched two innings and gave up no runs on just one hit.

Wesleyan will be back in action this Saturday against West Liberty for a doubleheader. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
