Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON – It was a clean sweep for the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat softball team here today in a twin bill with the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots.
Wesleyan took game one by a 6-0 score and won the second outing by a 7-3 count.
Hannah Vet was in complete control of game one for Wesleyan tossing a complete-game shutout.
She gave up just four hits, walked one and struck out six.
Wesleyan got all the offense they needed in the bottom of the second inning.
Megan Malenstyn hit a two-out double and Rachel Ramsey followed that with another double to give Wesleyan a 1-0 lead.
Wesleyan erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Olivia Gore hit a two-run double and later scored on a sacrifice bunt by Ramsey. Rebekah Honce also had a run-batted-in for the Lady 'Cats during the inning.
Wesleyan tacked on one more run when Ramsey doubled home Gore in the bottom of the sixth.
Ramsey was a perfect two-for-two at the plate and drove home three runs.
Gore and Malenstyn each had two hits as well for Wesleyan.
In game two, four doubles in the bottom of the first inning accounted for three Wesleyan runs.
The game would remain at 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth when Wesleyan tacked on three more runs.
Gore had a two-run double and Malenstyn had a one-run double to account for the scoring.
Ohio Valley scored twice in the top of the sixth to make it a 6-2 game, but Brooklyn Waddell doubled home Ashley Hurey to treat Wesleyan to a 7-2 advantage.
Morgan Wilson hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh for Ohio Valley to wrap up the scoring.
Wesleyan had 11 hits in the victory with Waddell getting three and Gore, Malenstyn and Hurey each collecting three apiece.
Anna Eggleston picked up the win for Wesleyan in a complete-game effort.
She allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out three.
The sweep improved the Lady 'Cats of head coach Steve Warner to 8-4 overall.
They will open Mountain East Conference play this Saturday when they host West Virginia State for a doubleheader.
First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
