Box Score BUCKHANNON – A balanced attack led the West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team to their second straight win as they defeated Walsh by an 11-8 score here today in non-conference action.
The win improved the Lady 'Cats of head coach Karli Brentlinger to 7-2 overall.
Wesleyan went up by a 2-0 score after goals by Emily Noel and Hannah Antonelli.
Walsh scored the next three but Wesleyan matched that by scoring the next three after that to hold a 5-3 lead.
Jessica Hardman (pictured) scored twice and Taylor Holmes added a goal during that run.
Walsh scored again to make it a 5-4 contest but Natalie Schaffner scored with 28 seconds left in the half to treat Wesleyan to a 6-4 advantage the break.
Holmes and Antonelli scored within a minute of one another at the 23 and 22-minute mark of the second half to up the Wesleyan lead to 8-4.
Following a Walsh goal, Wesleyan went on another 3-0 run to take a commanding 11-5 lead.
Noel, Holmes, and Schaffner all tallied goals during that run.
Walsh scored the final three goals to wrap up the scoring.
Holmes paced the offense with three goals while Antonelli, Hardman, Noel and Schaffner each had two goals apiece for Wesleyan.
Walsh owned a 26-21 in shots-on-goal
Wesleyan keeper Lexi Swisher (7-2) made 19 saves in the victory.
"Lexi was lights out today and we are so proud of how she has come back this year and proved her dominance on the field," Brentlinger said.
The Lady Bobcats will open up Mountain East Conference play this Friday when they visit Wheeling Jesuit.
The contest will begin at 6 p.m.
