Baseball 'Cats Take Doubleheader From UVa-Wise

BUCKHANNON – A Michael Logsdon walk-off single in game one set the state for a West Virginia Wesleyan baseball sweep over the Virginia-Wise Cavaliers here today in a Mountain East Conference twin bill at Ellis Field.

Down 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, James Fraser started off the inning reaching on an error.

Bronson Clark came onto pinch run for Fraser and went to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Wyatt Adkins.

Nick Jones and Kelly Machuca both singled to load the bases for the Bobcats.

Corey Lynn brought home Clark with a sacrifice fly to left field that knotted the game at 2-2.

Logsdon then stroked a single into left field that brought Jones home and secured the victory for Wesleyan.

Wesleyan had seven hits in the contest as Logsdon and Macucha each had two apiece.

Austin Boam picked up the win in a relief role for the Bobcats.

He went 2 2/3 innings and didn't allow a run or a hit while walking one and striking out three.

The nightcap went to Wesleyan as well with a 10-6 victory.

Logsdon and Logan Moneypenny each knocked in a run for Wesleyan in the bottom of the first to give the 'Cats a 2-0 lead.

Moneypenny doubled home Logsdon in the third to treat Wesleyan to a 3-0 lead.

Virginia-Wise scored all six of their runs in the top of fourth to grab a 6-3 advantage.

Wesleyan managed to get one back in their half of the fourth when Jones pushed home Fraser on a fielder's choice.

Wesleyan chased across four runs in the fifth to take an 8-6 lead.

Fraser had a two-run single, Adkins had a one-run double and Riley Metz had a RBI to account for the scoring.

Wesleyan added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Logsdon had a one-run double and Metz knocked in another run to account for the 10-6 score.

Wesleyan pouned out 13 hits in the win.

Fraser and Logsdon each had three apiece while Jones, Lynn and Moneypenny each had two.

James Gainer went the distance to get the win.

He gave up six earned runs on 12 hits and fanned five.

The sweep upped the record of the Bobcats to 5-8 overall and 4-8 in the MEC.

They will host Virginia-Wise again Monday in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
