Baseball 'Cats Winning Streak Now at at Four

BUCKHANNON – Make it four in a row!

The West Virginia Wesleyan baseball team took another pair of games from Virginia-Wise today to hike their winning streak to four games in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Hank Ellis Field.

Wesleyan won game one by a 3-1 score and then took the nightcap by a 4-1.

The sweep today accompanied with the sweep yesterday has the 'Cats now at 7-8 overall and 6-8 in the Mountain East Conference.

Virginia-Wise scored a run in the top of the first but Wesleyan countered with two runs in their half of the first.

Michael Logsdon and Riley Metz each drove in a run for Wesleyan to give them a 2-1 lead.

James Fraser singled home Logsdon in the bottom of the third to give Wesleyan their 3-1 advantage.

Neither team would score a run after that.

Wesleyan had seven hits with Logsdon getting three.

Chris Hall picked up the win for the Bobcats. He went 4 2/3 innings and gave up just one run on five hits while fanning two.

Dillon Wagman twirled the final 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball to record the save.

Metz was in control on the mound for Wesleyan in game two.

He threw a two-hitter allowing just one run and striking out five in the complete-game victory.

After Virginia-Wise scored their lone run in the top of the first, Travis Renner singled home Logsdon to deadlock the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second.

The score would stay at 1-1 until the bottom of the fourth when Wesleyan chased across two runs.

Michael Bolla hit a sacrifice fly that scored Logsdon and Fraser scored on a wild pitch to make it a 3-1 game.

Fraser singled home Logsdon in the bottom of the sixth inning for an added insurance run.

Wesleyan had eight hits in the victory.

Logsdon, who went three-for-three in game one, was a perfect three-for-three in game two.

Fraser and Renner each added two hits.

Wesleyan will return to action this Friday at Fairmont State.

First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
