Tennis 'Cats Down Bluefield College, 7-2

BLUEFIELD -- The West Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team finally opened their spring season here Sunday, taking a dual from Bluefield College by the final of 7-2.

The Bobcats took two of the three doubles matches to begin the day, then closed out the hosts by winning five singles matches.

The 'Cats, 1-0 overall, had to battle back at No 1 doubles to get the early lead in the dual.

The teams were tied 1-1 after splitting the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches.

After falling behind 6-3, Wesleyan's Aitor Reparaz and Joel Izquierdo bounced back to claim a 9-7 win and give the 'Cats momentum into the singles, where they captured five more points in straight sets.

Jacobo Rendon lost in 3rd set tie-breaker at No. 1 singles to account for the final margin.

The Bobcats will play here again Monday when they face off against Bluefield State College at the city court complex.

The Big Blues are currently ranked No. 1 in the Altantic Region while Wesleyan enters as the No. 2 ranked team.

First serve time is set for 1 p.m.
