Box Score 2 CLERMONT (Fla.) – The No. 23 West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat softball team split action in their 2015 debut against Ohio Dominican and California (Pa.).
The Lady 'Cats opened their season with a 12-4 win against Ohio Dominican but dropped a 7-3 decision to Cal. (Pa.).
It took just five innings to dispose of Ohio Dominican as they used a nine-run fifth inning to gain the victory.
The Lady Bobcats hit five home runs during the contest.
After falling behind by a 2-0 score after 1/2 inning of play, Wesleyan's Jessica Rodriguez blasted a two-run home run after Brooklyn Waddell (pictured) was hit by a pitch to make it a 2-2 game after one inning of action.
Ohio Dominican scored a run in the top of the second and third inning to take a 4-2 lead.
Megan Malenstyn hit a solo home run to bring Wesleyan to within one in the bottom of the third inning.
Wesleyan remained down 4-3 until their nine-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lady Bobcats had three home runs in the frame.
Rodriguez hit a two-run home run, Rebekah Honce blasted a three-run home run and Waddell cracked a three-run home run during the inning.
Anna Eggleston picked up the win for the Lady 'Cats tossing all five innings and fanning five.
In the contest against Cal (Pa.), the Lady Bobcat defense was guilty of five errors in the game which ultimately cost them the contest.
Wesleyan grabbed an early 2-0 lead against Cal. (Pa.) but they responded with three in the third and two in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.
Waddell hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth to make it a 5-3 contest, but Cal (Pa.) added two more in the bottom of the fifth.
Hannah Vet suffered the loss for the Lady 'Cats. She went 5 2/3 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits.
The Lady 'Cats will return to action Sunday when they play Stonehill at 9 a.m. and Lock Haven at 3 p.m.
