Box Score BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team sent their four seniors out in style on Senior Day as they defeated the Notre Dame College Lady Falcons here today by a 16-12 score in a Mountain East Conference battle.
The four seniors, Jessica Hardman, Taylor Holmes, Jackie Luciany and Emily Noel (pictured), had a big hand in the victory as they scored nine of the 16 goals.
Noel scored just 90 seconds into the contest, and after Notre Dame scored, Wesleyan reeled off the next four goals as Luciany scored one, Hardman tallied two and Kim Lubic had one.
Sandwiched between two Notre Dame goals was another score for Hardman.
Leading 6-3, Wesleyan scored five unanswered goals to take a commanding 11-3 lead.
Hannah Antonelli had two goals during that stretch while Noel, Holmes and Hardman each had one apiece.
Notre Dame scored a goal with a minute left in the first half as both teams went into the intermission with Wesleyan ahead by an 11-4 score.
In the first 10 minutes of the second half, Hardman scored once and Noel twice as Wesleyan kept their lead at seven, at 14-7.
Wesleyan attempted to slow the game down and play keep away from Notre Dame the rest of the way.
Notre Dame outscored Wesleyan by a 5-2 score down the stretch but goals by Holmes and Natalie Schaffner kept Wesleyan's lead safe.
Seven players got into the scoring act for Wesleyan.
Hardman led the way with five goals while Noel had four and Antonelli and Holmes each had two.
Wesleyan owned a 24-18 lead in shots-on-goal and a 15-14 margin in draw controls.
Swisher (11-4) made four saves while Brown made two stops.
The win improved the Lady Bobcats to 11-4 overall and 3-2 in the MEC.
Wesleyan will likely enter the MEC Tournament next week as the three seed and will face the second seed Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals.
First though they will wrap up their regular season as they travel to Keyser to play Potomac State Friday at 5 p.m.
