BRIDGEPORT – A bases load walk in the top of the ninth inning gave West Virginia Wesleyan a thrilling 6-5 victory in game two against the Fairmont State Falcons in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.

The game two win followed the 'Cats being victorious in game one by a 7-1 score.

The two wins hiked the Wesleyan winning streak to six.

Wesleyan improved their overall record to 9-8 and their MEC ledger to 8-8.

In game one, Wesleyan struck first when Michael Logsdon hit a sacrifice fly that scored Kelly Machuca.

Fairmont scored their lone run in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 1-1 but Tre Kerns doubled home Travis Renner in the top of the fourth to return the lead to Wesleyan.

Logsdon smashed a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to increase the Bobcat lead to 4-1.

Wesleyan pushed three runs across in the top of the sixth inning.

Nick Jones hit a sacrifice fly that scored Riley Metz, Logsdon drew a bases loaded walk to score Kerns and Machuca scored on a wild pitch.

Wesleyan had 11 hits in the victory.

Corey Lynn was a perfect four-for-four at the plate while Kerns collected two.

Andrew Omes picked up the win for Wesleyan.

He went six innings and allowed one run on eight hits while walking two.

Dillon Wagman pitched a scoreless seventh inning for Wesleyan.

In game two, Wesleyan opened up a 3-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-run double by James Fraser and a ground-out RBI by Kerns.

Fairmont State tallied a run in the bottom of the second and then scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to grab a 4-3 lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, Kerns and Jones each had one-run singles to return the lead to Wesleyan at 5-4.

Fairmont State added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 5-5.

Neither team would score again until the ninth inning when Wesleyan pushed across the go-ahead run.

Machuca started the inning off with a single, Logsdon drew an intentional walk and Logan Moneypenny drew a walk to load the bases.

Metz drew another walk which scored Machuca to give Wesleyan the win.

Machuca, Logsdon and Fraser spearheaded Wesleyan's 11-hit attack with two hits apiece.

Wesleyan used five pitchers with Wagman being the fifth pitcher.

He picked up the win tossing 3 2/3 innings not allowing a run on three hits.

Wesleyan and Fairmont State will renew the series this Saturday at Bridgeport.

First pitch is slated for a 1 p.m.
