Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON – After being upset by Glenville State nearly a month ago, the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat softball team left no doubt today in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader rematch with the Lady Pioneers.
Wesleyan ended both games on the mercy rule in five innings, taking the first game by a 16-3 score and the nightcap by a 17-2 score.
The doubleheader sweep improves the record of head coach Steve Warner and his Lady Bobcats to 28-6 overall and 18-2 in the MEC.
In game one, Wesleyan wasted little time as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first.
Olivia Gore hit a two-run double and Megan Malenstyn hit a two-run home run to account for the scoring.
Wesleyan pushed across five runs in the bottom of the second.
Gore had a one-run single, Krista Waggoner had a two-run single, Malenstyn had a one-run single and Emily Bennett had a one-run single in the inning.
Glenville State scored twice in the top of the third to make it a 9-2 game but Anna Eggleston (pictured) hit a solo home in the bottom of the third to make it a 10-2 contest.
Wesleyan scored six times in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 16-2 lead.
Morgan Bruce scored on an error, Gore knocked in two on a fielder's choice and Malenstyn had a three-run home run.
Glenville State hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth to wrap up the scoring.
Wesleyan had 18 hits in just four innings at the plate.
Malenstyn was a perfect four-for-four at the plate with six runs-batted-in.
Gore was three-for-four with five runs-batted-in.
Eggleston, Waggoner, Bruce and Bennett each had two hits.
Hannah Vet picked up the win as she went four innings and gave up one earned run on two hits.
She upped her record to 13-3.
In the second game, Wesleyan sent 12 batters to the plate and scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Eggleston hit a three-run home run to highlight the inning.
Wesleyan sent 12 batters to the plate in the second inning and scored eight runs.
Gore had the big hit in the second inning with a three-run home run.
Glenville State ruined the shutout with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning.
The Lady Bobcats pounded out 14 hits in game two.
Eggleston had three hits and six runs-batted-in while Gore had three hits and four runs-batted-in.
Brooklyn Waddell collected two hits.
Eggleston earned the win for Wesleyan to improve to 9-1.
She went four innings and didn't allow a run on three hits.
Wesleyan will return to action this Saturday as they host Urbana in a MEC doubleheader.
First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
