Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON – Culpepper Field is home to the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat softball team.
They should nickname it the "Launching Pad" because with Wesleyan's potent offensive attack, every baseball has the potential to be launched over the outfield fence.
Wesleyan hit seven home runs in the second game of a doubleheader against Urbana today en route to a 12-4 win in a Mountain East Conference clash.
Brooklyn Waddell hit two of the home runs and Anna Eggleston, Olivia Gore, Krista Waggoner, Rebekah Honce and Rachel Ramsey (pictured) all hit shots out of the yard in game two.
Wesleyan broke their own MEC home run mark this season. They held the previous record with five home runs in a game.
For the season, Wesleyan has hit 51 home runs overall and 27 at Culpepper Field in just 16 games.
In the second game, lead-off batter Waddell started the home run parade with a solo shot to give Wesleyan a quick 1-0 lead.
Waggoner had a one-run double, Malenstyn scored Waggoner with a sacrifice fly and Honce hit a solo shot to give Wesleyan a 4-0 advantage after one inning of play.
Ramsey had a solo blast and Waggoner hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second to treat Wesleyan to an 8-0 lead.
Gore crushed a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to up the Wesleyan advantage to 10-0.
Urbana scored four times in the top of the fifth to make it a 10-4 game.
Wesleyan ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on the mercy rule after Waddell and Eggleston went deep in back-to-back appearances at the plate.
Wesleyan had 12 hits with nine of them going for extra bases.
Waddell, Eggleston, Gore, Waggoner and Ramsey each had two hits.
Eggleston picked up the win to improve to 10-1.
She went four innings and didn't allow a run while giving up just one hit and fanning two.
Wesleyan cruised to a 13-0 victory in five innings in the first contest.
Wesleyan scored an unearned run when Honce crossed home on Ashley Hurey's shot to right field that was dropped and Waddell hit a two-run double in the bottom of the second to give Wesleyan a 3-0 advantage.
Wesleyan sent 14 batters to the plate in a 10-run fourth inning.
Ramsey had a three-run double, Gore had a two-run single and Hurey, Waddell, Eggleston, Malenstyn and Morgan Bruce each knocked in a run to account for the scoring.
That gave Wesleyan their 13-0 lead.
Hannah Vet went four innings to improve her mark to 14-2. She allowed just one hit while striking out three.
Alyssa Shawgo threw a scoreless fifth inning striking out two.
The sweep left head coach Steve Warner's Lady Bobcats with a 30-6 record overall and a 20-2 mark in the MEC.
They will wrap up their home portion of their schedule tomorrow when they face Notre Dame at 2:30 p.m.
It will be senior day for the Lady Bobcats as they will honor their five seniors playing their last regular season game at Culpepper Field.
