Box Score CALIFORNIA (Pa.) – The West Virginia Wesleyan softball team bowed out of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Super Regional today with a 6-2 loss in eight innings to the California (Pa.) Vulcans.
The Lady 'Cats though didn't go down without a fight.
Brooklyn Waddell started the game off with a bang for the Lady Bobcats as she hit a solo home run on the first pitch she saw in the bottom of the first to treat Wesleyan to an early 1-0 lead.
California grabbed the lead after plating a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Following an hour-long lightning delay, Rebekah Honce (pictured) blasted a solo home run over the center field fence to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
California used a huge top of the eighth inning to secure the win. They scored four runs on five hits to account for the scoring.
Wesleyan put runners at second and third in the bottom of the eighth inning but was unable to score.
Wesleyan collected eight hits in the contest.
Ashley Hurey was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while Waddell had two hits.
Hannah Vet (20-5) started the game and went 7 2/3 innings. She allowed six earned runs on 11 hits and fanned three.
Alyssa Shawgo tossed the final 1/3 inning and gave up one hit and one walk.
Wesleyan ended the season with a 38-10 record.
California improved to 41-11 and will advance to the NCAA National Championships next weekend in Oklahoma.
