Baseball Team Falls Twice to Glenville State

GLENVILLE – All the West Virginia Wesleyan baseball needed to do to secure the sixth seed in the upcoming Mountain East Conference tournament was win one game of a four-game road series with the Glenville State Pioneers this weekend.

The Bobcats have now placed themselves in a precarious position after getting swept today in a twin bill.

Wesleyan lost game one by a 5-2 score and dropped the second outing, 7-3.

Wesleyan has a 17-17 record in the MEC while Glenville State owns a 17-21 MEC record.

If the 'Cats are unable to garner a win tomorrow, Glenville State will have a better winning percentage than Wesleyan in conference play and steal the sixth seed.

In both games, it was one bad inning that doomed the Bobcats.

In game one, Glenville State scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and then had a big third inning pushing across four runs to take a 5-0 lead.

Wesleyan managed their two runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Michael Logsdon (pictured) singled home Tre Kerns for the first run and Corey Lynn crossed the plate on a double play to account for the scoring.

Wesleyan mustered just five hits in the contest with Lynn, Logsdon, Logan Moneypenny, Ryan Rado and Travis Renner each getting one apiece.

Chris Denno went the distance on the mound for Wesleyan and suffered the loss.

He gave up five runs on five hits and fanned six.

In game two, Wesleyan trailed 2-0 before Lynn hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth to make it a 2-1 game.

Wesleyan scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fifth for their first lead, at 3-2.

Renner singled home James Fraser and Rado crossed home plate on an error for the scoring.

It was the fifth inning that doomed Wesleyan in game two as they gave up five runs.

A Lance Gilbert three-run home run highlighted the inning for Glenville State.

Wesleyan managed six hits with Nick Jones, Lynn, Logsdon, Rado, Riley Metz and Renner each getting one.
